Sorry this is a little late, but better late than never.
On Friday I received a text from one of my cousins inviting us to come to the beach with his family, some of my other cousins and some friends on Saturday.
Since we didn’t have any plans and Thursday’s visit to my hubby’s dad’s place to swim was a bust, we jumped at the chance. This would also be another milestone for Peanut — her first visit to the beach.
I’m a beach snob. My parents are from the Caribbean. I always joke with my husband that Ontario does not have a beach that’s worthy of calling it a true beach, but I stand corrected.
We went to a beautiful beach about two hours away from where we live and it was gorgeous!
I was a bit worried about how Peanut would react to sand and the water. I was relieved to find out that the water was warm and not ice cold like most lakes in this Province.
One of my cousins carried Peanut up the steep sand hill that we had to climb to get to the beach. When she put her down, this was her reaction to having the sand slip through her toes.
She kept looking at me and pointing to her feet and the sand. Then she started smiling and got really curious and touched it. Phew! There was no screaming and crying.
As you can see, she had no problems with the sand. By the end of the day she was digging little holes, making mud pies and even sampled a little sand.
The water was a bit of a different story. Each time we went in, she was hesitant and needed to be held. But after a few minutes, she wanted to splash around like some of the big kids. I wish I was able to capture some of that on camera, but I have the memories in my mind.
I would say the highlight of her day was watching her daddy and my cousin’s girlfriend landing in the water like humpback whales and making a big splash.
We were at the beach for pretty much the whole day. It wasn’t until we got home that we realized how wiped out we were. I think we went to bed at 10:30, which is pretty early for us on a Saturday evening — especially for my hubby.
We will definitely go back to that beach and hopefully take my stepdaughter with us.
